Co Organizer
Jannette Heckert
As a kid I always loved horses. We did not have horses so my dad would take me to a riding stable so I could ride. When I was 14 years old, living in Maryland, my dad bought my first horse named Blue Ridge Thunder, a beautiful dapple gray thorough bred mix, trained for cross county jumping. Time moved on and my family moved to Colorado.
I met my husband and we raised our children in Colorado where I worked in the school lunch program for 17 years, ending my career as the Director of the school food program.
For the past 33 years I have been living in Utah. The 2002 Olympic Winter Games brought my family here as my husband engaged in the development and management of the jumping venue for the Olympics. I started in the real estate business in 2002 and currently hold my real estate license in Utah.
I began working as a volunteer at Wild Heart Sanctuary in 2021, who homes wild mustangs forever. Four Onaqui mustangs and five from other HMAs saved from the slaughter pipeline. I sit on the board for Wild Heart Sanctuary. I protest roundups, volunteer on range cleaning, and donate money to organizations involved in saving wild horses and burros. It takes a village to save our wild horses as we all know.
Having the 2026 National Wild Horse and Burro Conference in Park City gives our wild horse community a name in the fight. Welcome to Utah!

In 2017 she relocated to Southern California where she presently resides.
Peri is searching for a property where she can provide sanctuary for wild horses being held in BLM and USFS holding.
"It's pretty much a full time job searching for a suitable!"
Peri's private foundation, Rockin D Sanctuary, was established in May of 2024.
